Dear Friends,
Thank you for the privilege and the honor of representing you in the Honolulu City Council.
My focus as a Honolulu City Councilmember is to carefully monitor the spending of your taxpayer money. For too long the City has raised taxes at every turn to finance every fiscal hiccup. I have always been, and will continue to be, a strong advocate for fiscal discipline and financial responsibility. I strongly support much more aggressive use of privatization of City services to help balance our budget. In addition, civil service reform remains an elusive goal we need to address. I strongly support reforming civil service laws to reduce the cost of government. I am proud of my record as the only sitting member of the City Council to oppose all tax increases.
I am committed to restoring trust in our government. As your councilmember, I am working hard to finally put "teeth" in our ethics code by giving the Ethics Commission the power to issue fines. I am also working to clean out and clean up our long-troubled liquor commission.
One of the most important aspects of my job as your city councilmember, however, is helping people deal with city government. The city bureaucracy can seem cumbersome and frustrating. My staff and I are available to help you cut the "red tape" of city government so that fair solutions to your problems and concerns can be reached. Please do not hesitate to call me with your comments, questions, or concerns.
Aloha and Best Wishes!
Charles K. Djou
Councilmember
