Crime

Public safety is one of the most important jobs of our municipal government. As a Councilmember I have been an advocate for strict crime control measures. My record reflects a clear and consistent support for our police and emergency services. Representing Waikiki, I am keenly aware how crime can mare the visitor experience and hurt our most important industry in Hawaii.

Previously as a legislator, I worked hard to make our community a safer place to live. After a rash of escapes at the Hawaii State Hospital, I advocated for dramatic improvements in security. Today, the Hawaii State Hospital is a far safer facility. I have also been intimately involved in efforts to build a new prison in Hawaii. I am working to ensure that the new prison meets high standards for public safety and that its construction and operation makes fiscal sense for taxpayers.
